Teaching approach

Technique through meaningful music.

Theory is treated as a practical creative tool. Students listen, analyze, write, and revise every week, developing technique while learning to make musical decisions that support their own artistic voice.

Practice expectations

Practice grows with the student.

Assignments are adjusted to the student’s level, with an emphasis on consistent daily playing and gradual growth.

Weekly writing

Complete a focused composition assignment or make meaningful progress on a longer original work each week.

Listening and analysis

Study assigned music by ear and through scores to identify techniques that can be used in original writing.

Revision

Review feedback, test alternatives, and refine melody, harmony, form, and orchestration with clear musical intent.
